The Henschen DURA-FLEX™ torsion axle utilizes the natural cushioning of rubber cords (a specially compounded blend of natural and synthetic rubber) and their self-dampening characteristics to make the Henschen Axle System perfectly suited for any type of loading requirements.rubber cords The inner torsion shaft of each wheel is isolated and cushioned from the frame and axle tube by the rubber cords.

To place the rubber into the axles, the rubber cords are placed in deforming molds and then frozen. The cords are then removed from the molds and placed inside the axle tube. The rubber attempts to return to its original shape, but it can't because once inserted, it is restricted by the inner torsion bar ("innermetal") and the outer axle tube. The rubber, held to the restricted shape now serves as "cushioned ride" bearings.

cords in placeAs a load is applied to the axle, the inner rubber is compressed in a rotating action which absorbs road shock energy without transmitting it to the frame.
